The Plight of Young Boys in India

While it is an undeniable fact that young girls have the odds stacked against them in the developing world, you only have to look at the statistics to see that young boys in India are vulnerable too.

When we reflect on the quote, “Children look to their fathers for support and guidance”, Ellen G White; and with Father’s Day approaching we have produced what we hope is an inspirational video to share with your school and church.

Father’s Day is a celebration honouring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds and the influence of fathers in our society.

However, within the slums we work in India boys have few positive male role models or a secure and safe family environment.

We are working hard with our Partners to address these issues.

  • We facilitate men’s safe-help groups to help men be the fathers they deserve to be.
  • Our mentoring program provides opportunities for young boys to be matched with positive male role models who encourage boys to stay in school and out of gangs, while also facilitating positive conversations around difficult issues like neglect, fear in the home and child abuse.
  • Our before and after-school programs offer an alternative to roaming the streets, where boys are given time to complete their home, play with friends and learn about their child rights.
  • Our sports program provides a safe place for boys and young men to be to build friendships and learn how to work as a team. After training the boys are encouraged to share their hopes and dreams for the future and discuss social challenges without judgement.

The meaningful impact we are making within these Indian slums can only happen with your continued prayers and support.  We hope that this video will inspire you as much as it inspired us to make it. Here is the downloadable link to the video to use at church or school.

A special mention must also go to Mark Mitchell Schultz who is a contemporary Christian music artist who kindly gave us permission to use his song, He’s My Son with no charge for this video.

So on behalf of our father’s to yours, Happy Father’s Day and thank-you.
