Skipping School And Bad Choices

In 2019, Avinash’s life seemed to be spiraling out of control. A 10th-grade student from Bangalore, he had stopped caring about school, and his parents were heartbroken. He spent most of his time with the wrong crowd, skipping classes, and even turning to smoking and drugs. His parents were losing hope.

That’s when Avinash joined Oasis India’s After School Program (ASP). At first, he was distant and uninterested in the activities. But the ASP team refused to give up on him. They introduced him to life skills classes and counseling sessions, patiently guiding him through each step.

Slowly but surely, Avinash started to change. He learned how to control his anger, understand the value of education, and rebuild his self-esteem. With time, he realized the importance of choosing the right friends and started making better decisions.

The turning point came when he quit smoking and stayed away from drugs. The staff at Oasis India stood by him, encouraging him every step of the way. Avinash started attending school regularly, surprising his teachers and filling his parents with hope once again.

Soon, Avinash discovered a new dream. He wanted to pass his 10th-grade exams and become a physical education teacher. It felt impossible at first, but with determination and the support of our partner staff, he worked hard and achieved it.

Not only did he pass the 10th grade, but he also completed his 12th grade and joined the Physical Educators Training program at a college in the city, and now Avinash works as a physical education instructor at a school where he inspires young minds every day.

Looking back, Avinash is overwhelmed with gratitude. “ASP didn’t just change my life—it saved it. I’m no longer the boy who skipped school and made bad choices. Now, I’m someone my parents are proud of, and I’m living a life full of passion and purpose.”
