Meet Deborata: A Grateful Sponsor Child

Debobrata, aged 15, has been a sponsored child in far west India for the last 7 years. Now in seventh grade, his teachers say he is a sincere student, actively pursuing his studies even during lockdown. He says, “I would like to grow up to be a God-fearing engineer and be faithful in my work,” and that he would like to help the poor and needy people in his country. Maths and Morals are his favourite subjects.

He enjoys playing volleyball and taking care of plants in the garden. He also enjoys reading and helping the younger boys who live in the hostel. He participates in all the co-curricular activities and makes many friends through these. His favourite breakfast in the hostel is Kichadi and Rice with egg curry.

Debobrata says he feels proud to be a student of his Seventh-Day Adventist School. He considers himself very fortunate to be able to get an education at an English medium school as his parents would have never been able to afford this level of education for him. With the help of his sponsor and Asian Aid, he has been able to study for a better future which he is grateful for. Above all, he is grateful to God for the blessings he has been able to receive through the sponsorship program.

During lockdown, he has gone to live with his mother in his uncle’s family home not far from the school. They have all remained safe during the pandemic.
