Care Beyond Limits by Nurses and Doctors

Meet Mrs. Bimala, pictured on the left in a blue saree. She’s deeply committed to the women in her village and makes the most of Asian Aid’s health camps to help as many as possible.

Recently, she told our team about a woman suffering terribly from pelvic organ prolapse. This woman lived alone, had no children, and wouldn’t travel to the camp because she had no one to care for her only companion – a goat she considered family.

Bimala asked, almost hesitantly, if we could bring the clinic to her. Without hesitation, our team agreed. Together, they drove an hour along dirt roads, fields, and rivers to the home. The lady was taken by surprise when she saw a vehicle approaching her house. “Come with me,” Bimala urged her gently, “we’ll find a solution to your suffering – you may never get another chance to see a doctor.” The woman tied up her goat and joined the journey, a trip that would have taken her half a day on foot.

At the camp, she – along with another woman from her village – received a diagnosis and treatment to ease her uterine prolapse pain with a ring pessary and education about hygiene, along with the offer of free surgery whenever she felt ready. She returned home that day not only more comfortable physically, but reassured that help would always be there if she needed it.

Women like her – who would otherwise never see a doctor – are receiving compassionate, life-changing care right at their doorstep.
