Our Students Dreaming Beyond Lockdown

Kamala, Ruth, Narendra and Karan are students in grade 10 from our Children’s Home in Nepal. This year they were supposed to take the Secondary Education Examination but because of the lockdown, the examination has been called off.

During the last lockdown, they were with their families in their respective villages. They worked collecting firewood from the forest and as shepherds helping their family. They were not afraid of Covid since they were living in rural parts of western Nepal. They had not heard of anyone in their neighbourhood being infected. Due to a lack of internet and devices, they were not able to attend online classes.

Now they are back with our Partners in the Children’s Home, and life has resumed normality. They aim to be useful tools for society in the distant future. Kamala wants to be a teacher who will help the children by providing free education, Ruth aims to be a social worker who will eradicate the ill practices from the society. Narendra aims to be a businessman who helps poor children like him to achieve their dreams.

One part writer, one part photographer & two parts traveller… Three years ago I decided something needed to change, so I quit my corporate job and started working for Asian Aid from my home in India. I travel to projects and schools we support in India and Nepal, bringing you their stories through words, photos and video. Since then I have been visiting Asian Aid projects with my camera and notebook in tow, to bring pictures and stories from the field to you.
