Management and teaching staff at our Adventist schools in Nepal are working tirelessly to ensure their school environments are safe and well resourced, as students continue to return to on-site learning. They are also consistently continuing to assess needs in their communities and Adventist schools to ensure children and their families who are unable to get back on their feet and return to education are supported in the best way possible.
With food relief and provisions secured for students and their families, our Partner in Nepal is now supporting students through the distribution of textbooks and stationery, in line with the adjusted academic year. In addition to learning resources, our Partner is continuing to coordinate data (internet) packages where needed for students continuing to learn from home. They are also ensuring, upon return to school, that students, teachers and non-teaching staff are provided with personal hygiene kits to support their care and protection.
Around 150 children received these learning resources, which will help them to stay up-to-date with their lessons, whatever their challenges.
“Prominent risks still remain for vulnerable children in Nepal, where the return to school may not be possible or encouraged due to ongoing circumstances affecting families and their community,” says Tammy Moses, Co-Program Manager, Asian Aid. “With this in mind, to see images of the returned students, their cheerful faces engaging with each other, with their learning resources in hand- what a blessing and joyful outcome!“
“Our partner schools are continuing to engage with the families of sponsored students who may remain reluctant and/or anxious to return their children to the school environment,” added Joanna Ryan, Co-Program Manager, Asian Aid. “This includes working with families to instil confidence and trust in the ability of school management and teachers, ensuring a return-to-learning for their children can be safe and supported.”
