Kerryn Patrick: An Enduring Legacy

As Kerryn Patrick, our Manager of Supporter Services and Company Secretary, retires after 34 years of service, we have been reflecting together on her time as a sponsor.

Kerryn and her family moved to Pappinbarra in 1985 where she was able to meet with her old friend Helen Eager. Kerryn says, “Through reconnecting with Helen, we started our own Asian Aid sponsorship journey when we chose to sponsor two Indian girls Sherly and Shakila.”

As Kerryn became steadily more involved in Asian Aid, she had the opportunity to accompany Helen on a trip to India in August 1998. On this trip, they visited schools, hospitals, students, graduates and saw the beginnings of both our special schools.

Going onto Bangalore, Kerryn was excited to have the chance to have a supervised visit to meet her sponsor child, Sherly. “It was an amazing experience,” she says.

Kerryn has remained a child sponsor ever since, and has sponsored 15 children so far. More so, her decades of service have made her a blessing to every child in our programs in India, Nepal, and Bangladesh.

Watch our special tribute to Kerryn at our AGM.

One part writer, one part photographer & two parts traveller… Three years ago I decided something needed to change, so I quit my corporate job and started working for Asian Aid from my home in India. I travel to projects and schools we support in India and Nepal, bringing you their stories through words, photos and video. Since then I have been visiting Asian Aid projects with my camera and notebook in tow, to bring pictures and stories from the field to you.
