Ultimate Workout group volunteer at Asian Aid sponsored school, Jeypore, India

A group of Maranatha Volunteers named Ultimate Workout group consisting mainly of students, pastors and nurses arrived on June 19, 2007. While they were here they spent their time painting the government hospital, visiting villages and cleaning the school campus.

The sub-divisional hospital at Jeypore looked very shabby with tobacco spit stains everywhere. Garbage could be seen in every corner of the hospital campus. Rooms looked very dirty and most of the beds were broken and rusted. The windows and doors looked as if they were about to break and most of the fans and lights didn't function.

After 10 days of hard labour by Ultimate Workout, the hospital building now looks neat and colourful. Items were repaired and rooms were painted. Our students helped the group clean floors, wash bathrooms and brush the toilets. The gates are now fixed and the signboards placed and illuminated. In addition to all the painting that was done at the hospital, two tube wells were repaired. All the beds were numbered and the painted rooms were numbered.

The Ultimate Workout group divided themselves into three groups on a rotation. While one group visited the hospitals, the second group visited remote villages and the third group stayed back at the Immanuel campus for various work including cleaning, classrooom visitation as well as teaching the children stories and songs. During the village visits, they taught songs and conducted small meetings. The media group that accompanied each group interveiwed parents and students at our school and also conducted games for the village kids. In some places they visited the homes and prayed with them. It was a wonderful experience for both the villagers and the group themselves.

On 24 June, this group also assisted with the opening of the new Immanuel Orphanage. They escorted the children to the orphanage and played with them.

We praise God for making such an arrangement - This is the first time a group of international volunteers have come and conducted such a thing. The town people were really impressed and many national and local newspapers along with ETV television station reported on the project.

We want to thank Elder Garwin and Maranatha Volunteers International for arranging this. May God continue to bless these young people who touched all of our lives and made us proud. We as a school family want to thank them generously and whole-heartedly. Dear friends may God bless you.

Udai Chandra
