Oasis has been working in the community for more than 4 years providing services in Education, Health, Livelihood Training, Youth Work and Community Mobilization. Emphasis is placed on empowering the local community people in taking initiative to improve and develop their own community. The YES project provides unemployed and unskilled youth in slum areas of Bangalore, Computer training and Job Seekers training. The course duration is for 4 months with 2 ½ hours of training per day 5 days a week. The course is designed to aim at 3 categories of people. The first one is Job Seekers category, second the Back-to-School Students and third General public those that are interested to become computer literate.
The curriculum offered for the job seekers would be Fundamentals of Computer, MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point, Internet Surfing, Job Skills, Spoken English and Interview Skills.
The Back-to-School students would be taught Paint, MS Word and Math & English through computer-aided programmes.
The General Public curriculum would include Fundamentals of Computer, MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point, Internet Surfing and Spoken English.
Besides these all students would be given awareness on Life Skills, Health Teachings and social issues. Students completing the course successfully would be given certificates and mark sheets.
The training course is open to all people immaterial of religion, caste, language or people groups. To improve the viability of the centre a nominal course fee would be charged to all students in order to make them value what they are learning, secure commitment in completing the course and avoid dropouts. The fees would also help sustain the training centre in the coming months and years.
