The aim of the project is to provide affordable health care to the urban poor located in two urban slum areas and five schools, and to improve the hygiene standards and nutritional levels of the population there.
The urban slums are located in the heart of the city. Houses are very crowded, the size of one slum house is less than the sit-out room of a normal house (10ft x 10ft). Most of the houses have the kitchen and wash their utensils outside their houses in the narrow path. The environmental hygiene and personal hygiene of the urban slum dwellers are not good. They work hard and spend most of their money drinking. The use of tobacco is quite high among youths. There is no health clinic in the slums and the SDA Medical Centre sends its doctors and paramedical staff to the slums on a weekly basis to screen people and educate them on health and hygiene.
Each family has approximately four members, therefore the target population covers a total of 7,000 men women and children. The project will aim at the women, children and youth which will be more than 50% of the total population.
Some of the activities are clinics, community based rehabilitation, community based health awareness campaign, health screening camps, peer education programs for students and school health visits.
All donations are tax deductible.
