Ganta gains 4th place in statewide exam
Ganta has been generously sponsored by an Asian Aid sponsor and has been studying
at the Bobbili Blind School. She has wanted to be a teacher for many years despite
the fact that she is totally blind. At the end of the school year Ganta sat the
state wide teacher's entrance exams for university and she got 4th place against
all candidates from Andhra Pradesh. The love and support that the blind school gave
her has enabled her to reach her God given potential. The parents of Ganta are so
proud of her and when I met them in their home, the smiles expressed the joy that
sponsorship had given their family. It's difficult having a child with special needs
in India and without the generosity of one person who decided to sponsor Ganta,
her life would have been very different. Ganta wants to repay the kindness shown
to her by one day returning to the Bobbili Blind School to teach other blind children
just as she was taught when she was young.
On August 22, eighteen of the children from the blind school were invited to sing
five songs and recite some poetry during a one hour radio broadcast on All India
Radio, with commentary by Pr Paulson, Principal of the Blind School. All India Radio
is India's national broadcaster, with over 3,000 Radio Stations across India, and
is one of the largest radio networks in the world. It is amazing to consider the
doors that have been opened to these children. Especially if you consider that,
before coming to our school, begging in the streets was possibly the only future
they had to look forward to. Our heartfelt thanks go to the sponsors and donors
who have supported these children in so many ways. I know the rewards of your support
are eternal.
